Huawei recently staged the Huawei Film Awards (HFA), a grand showcase of the gift and talent of Filipinos. Sustaining the success of the Huawei Mate 30 Series in the Philippines, HFA empowers filmmakers to further expand their horizon in creating content with the help of Huawei’s cutting-edge smartphones.

Renowned names in the film industry graced HFA's audience with thought-provoking and heart-warming films. These content creators took advantage of Huawei Mate 30 Pro's 40-megapixel Cine Camera feature and a variety of shooting modes to produce the films.

Director Pepe Diokno admired the Huawei Mate 30 Pro which he used as the main device for the short film Things. "We shot the whole film from morning until night and the battery lasted the whole day. We were shocked that we didn't have to charge while shooting! Every single frame was shot using the Mate 30 Pro and we didn't add anything else and the results were just amazing," said Diokno.

TV commercial director Sid Maderazo shared his perspective on the evolution of filmmaking. "The high-end cameras obviously have a lot of advantages with big lenses, but I think we're going in the right direction. Witnessing and using the phone for me opens a lot of possibilities and seeing films by Lyka and Pepe, and to think that everything was shot using a gadget that can fit inside your pocket is just mindblowing! And coming from film, that is something else," Maderazo explained.

Filmmaker Lyka Gonzalez talked about the Huawei Mate 30 Pro feature that she liked the best while filming. "The film that we produced was shot mostly on the Pro mode, that allowed us control on what shutter speed to use, aperture to use, and even the frame rate. So, that customization ability gave us a lot of freedom and control in shooting the film that we want," said Gonzalez.

Besides highlighting the prowess of the Huawei Mate 30 Pro, the HFA also served as an avenue to spark awareness among people. "As the Philippines is the center of biodiversity, we are also the center of adversity. That’s why the partnership with Huawei is so crucial. Huawei has always been at the forefront of developing technology and pushing what can be and what possibilities are. This is I hope the beginning of what is a deeper relationship with Huawei as we work together to reimagine possibilities," Anna Oposa, Executive Director of Save Philippine Seas, explained.

All set in March, the Asia Pacific Regional Huawei Film Awards will be held in Thailand where several awards including APAC Best Director, APAC Best Actor, APAC Best Cinematography, and Best Film in the Country Level will be announced. Aside from Diokno, other brilliant and accomplished filmmakers of this generation, namely Carlo Manatad, Martika Escobar, and JP Habac, vie to bring home these awards with their entries titled Things, Tisay, Living Things, and So Long So Long To Everyone.
